Tangible and Embedded Interaction 2009

We are happy to announce that TEI’09 will be held in Cambridge, UK on February 16-18, 2009.

The conference will be chaired by Nicolas Villar and Shahram Izadi from Microsoft Research Cambridge.

Tangible and Embedded Interaction 2008

Related to the conference, there are calls for special issues:

  • Special issue on Tangible and Embedded Interaction in a new journal called "International Journal of Arts and Technology (IJART)". There is a open call for papers out (html and as well as a PDF-version). Make sure to submit!
  • Special issue on Tangible Interaction for Design in "Artificial Intelligence for Engineering Design, Analysis and Manufacturing" (AIEDAM)

TEI'08 featured a Most Innovative Idea competition. The winner got a set of Audio Cubes sponsored by http://www.percussa.com.
The Winner is: "XENAKIS - Combining Tangible Interaction with Probability-Based Musical Composition".


We have two press releases to announce TEI’08 (in German only).


The publisher Form und Zweck has a recent issue of its design magazine with the title Tangibility of the Digital. Christian Zöllner also features TEI'08 in his blog.


There is a press article on TEI'08 to be found at campus-web.de (in German) titled "Selbstläufer und echter Gegenwind".


JVRB is a journal that welcomes work on tangible and embedded interaction.


TEI'08 was held at the B-IT Center in Bonn, Germany. The conference took place between February 18 and 20, 2008.

Albrecht Schmidt from University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany and Hans Gellersen from Lancaster University, UK chaired the conference in 2008. Elise van den Hoven from Eindhoven University of Technology, Netherlands and Ali Mazalek from Georgia Institute of Technology, USA were program co-chairs.

The keynote speaker wasProf. Hiroshi Ishii from MIT Media Laboratory. Among other positions, he is Professor of Media Arts and Sciences, a co-director of the Things That Think (TTT) consortium and head of the Tangible Media Group. He and his work highly influenced the field of tangible and embedded interaction from the beginning.

The conference was held in cooperation with the ACM. The proceedings will be available in the ACM digital library shortly.

TEI'08 followed on from the highly successful Tangible and Embedded Interaction 2007 conference, held at Baton Rouge, Louisiana, USA.
