For the last few years, TEI has hosted a Diversity & Inclusion Lunch, with the goal of highlighting the work of diverse scholars, work aimed at increasing diversity and inclusion in computing and interaction, and to build and strengthen the networks of TEI attendees. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year, we are turning the D&I Lunch into a panel<\/strong>, with experts from within and outside of the TEI community who have been working towards more inclusive computing. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The D&I Panel will take place online on Tuesday, February 15th, from 14:00-16:00 CET<\/strong> (08:00-10:00 EST; 21:00-23:00 WST). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Panel Theme<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

This year’s Diversity & Inclusion event will be centred around the effect of the current global COVID pandemic on diversity and inclusion efforts in the TEI (and larger HCI) community. The main question is: what we can do to minimize the negative impacts of this pandemic on research activities and researchers themselves<\/strong>? <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We will focus especially on researchers from already underrepresented groups<\/strong>, and discuss topics such as the loss of funding, inability to execute field work, blurring lines between private and work life, increased care work, etc. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We will also discuss positive developments<\/strong> that have been kickstarted due to the current situation, such as: wider acceptance of working from home activities, wider ability for participation in conferences without the need to travel, broader availability of online resources such as videos of talks, and draw conclusions about what we can learn from these outcomes for a (pandemic-free) future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participate<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

We invite everyone in the HCI\/TEI community to participate in this panel, whether you are attending TEI 2021 or not. There will be opportunities during the panel to ask (anonymous) questions and take part in the discussions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you are attending TEI 2021, you do not need to sign up<\/strong> for the Diversity & Inclusion panel: you will be able to participate in it like all other conference activities. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
