Getting to Munich

Airports:

  • Munich Airport (MUC) is the most convenient way to fly into Munich. It is located around 45 minutes from the city center. It is the second largest airport in Germany and a Star Alliance hub. The cheapest way to get to the city is to use the train (S-Bahn).
  • Allgäu Airport Memmingen (FMM), also called "Munich South", is a small airport mainly targeted by low-cost carriers. It is a little further but can be a cheaper alternative depending on where you come from. It takes around 1 hour 25 minutes to get to Munich using the Allgäu Airport Express.

Munich can also easily be reached using the German train system.

Getting to the Conference

The conference venue is located in the center of Munich. The best way to get there is using Munich's excellent public transport system. To reach the conference venue, the best option is to use the metro exit "Universität" (U3,U6), which is located directly next to the conference venue. You can also use the exit "Odeonsplatz" (U4,U5) and walk a bit if this is more convenient for you.

To reach the studio location you can either walk from the conference location (about 15 minutes) or take the public transport to "Königsplatz" (U2) (exit in the direction of Brienner Straße).

We recommend downloading the network map.

Here is a small video done by our students that quickly explains how to use the public transport system in Munich:

Skiing

When planning your TEI trip, you might consider that TEI will be held in the middle of the skiing season. Several operators offer organized tours, leaving Munich early in the morning and returning at night with a full day in a skiing resort and a possibility to rent all necessary gear there. So, if that sounds interesting to you, come early or stay late and bring your ski clothes.
We suggest the Garmisch Ski-Express. Just go to the Munich train station and buy a ticket (which includes the skipass for the ski-lifts which will be distributed in the train) just before boarding the train.

Other Options:
Skibus München
Powertagesfahrten (German website but English booking)
