Opening Keynote: Adrien Segal
Adrien Segal is an artist based in Oakland, California (USA). Drawing from landscape, science, history, emotion, and perception, her interdisciplinary work bridges the gap between scientific rationality and the emotional nature of human experience. Her work has been exhibited internationally since 2007 and is published in several books and journals. She has been awarded Artist Residencies across the US, Canada, and Europe, and was the US-UK Fulbright Scholar at the University of Dundee in 2022. Adrien teaches art and design at the University of San Francisco and at California College of the Arts where she received her BFA, and she pursues her creative practice out of her studio in Alameda, California.
Closing Keynote: Dirk Pesch
Dirk Pesch is a Professor in the School of Computer Science and Information Technology at University College Cork (Ireland). Dirk’s research interests focus on the design and performance evaluation of Internet of Things (IoT) applications and associated communication protocols and system architectures with a view towards sustainability. He is passionate about designing IoT applications that can make a difference in people’s lives and our environment. He is also interested in addressing interoperability challenges across the diverse IoT landscape, which limits widespread adoption of the technology and their sustainability. Dirk is the Director of a national doctoral training initiative, the Science Foundation Ireland funded Centre for Research Training in Advanced Networks for Sustainable Societies. He is also a Principal Investigator in the SFI funded CONNECT Centre for Future Networks. Prior to joining academia, Dirk was a design engineer with Nokia in Germany and the UK.
